Driven by customer research showing a growing demand for smooth, quiet engines, even in trucks, Ford Powertrain in January, 2001, launched a major focused effort to improve NVH across the board, beginning with the 260-hp 5.4-liter single-overhead-cam Triton V-8 popular in Ford’s F-150 pickups, Expedition, Excursion, Econoline and Lincoln Navigator.
