The all-new Ford Mondeo registered yet another success in its recent history in the GCC markets, as it joined the 750-strong fleet of UAE-based National Taxi.

Al Tayer Motors, the Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealer in Dubai and Northern Emirates recently signed a fleet agreement with National Taxi for the supply of 250 Ford Mondeos (200 sedans and 50 station wagons).

"This is yet another achievement for Ford Mondeo in the GCC, and we are proud of it," said Jim Benintende, managing director of Ford Middle East. "Soon after we introduced the Mondeo in our region, we announced various fleet deals with this great European model. We are pleased that the Mondeo is reiterating its European success in our region, and fleet operating companies are discovering the benefits that this model offers them: reliability, safety, impressive driving dynamics and most importantly, low cost of ownership."

National Taxi has a current fleet size in excess of 750 vehicles, making it one of Dubai’s largest public transport companies. The addition of Ford Mondeo to its fleet will assist the company to meet the transport needs of Dubai’s growing population, according to Toufic A. Mitri, General Manager of National Taxi. “With the rapid expansion of the residential and city landscapes, we require a vehicle that is capable of providing both comfort and safety to our drivers and customers, while offering economical benefits to us,” Mitri said.

“The Ford Mondeo forms an integral part of our strategy to increase our levels of convenience and service to customers,” Mitri added.

Andrew Humberstone, general manager of Al Tayer Motors, commented, “National Taxi joins a large number of UAE companies that have chosen the Ford Mondeo after consultation with our fleet sales team. The main reasons being the Mondeo meets their business needs with reliability, practicality and economical performance, while Al Tayer Motors provides the efficient and dependable after-sales service that they expect.”

The multi-award winning Ford Mondeo was first launched in the GCC in October 2002. It boasts an array of standard features including a 2.0 litre Duratec HE I-4 engine (151 hp), Ford's Intelligent Protection System – including 4-wheel disc anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Breakforce Distribution (EBD), driver and front passenger airbags – and air-conditioning. To eliminate unwanted noise and vibration, the Mondeo incorporates a highly refined chassis and suspension system while the rack-and-pinion steering system with hydraulic power assist ensures ease of handling in traffic.

Built in Europe, the Ford Mondeo has become a preferred model of various taxi and car rental companies across the GCC since its debut in the region.

Ford's European flagship model also is a success around the globe, and has grabbed over 20 awards and accolades including this year's "Best Upper Medium Car" award from UK's Fleet News magazine and "Best Upper Medium Car" award at UK's Fleet Excellence Awards. Mondeo also was voted the European Car of The Year in 1994.
