Ford: Ohio Gets An Escape
FORD: OHIO GETS AN ESCAPE
As TCC told you yesterday, Ford has announced that its Avon Lake, Ohio,
assembly plant will begin building SUVs instead of shutting down. Ford and
UAW officials, along with Ohio governor Bob Taft, said yesterday at the
Cleveland-area plant that Escape production would commence in summer of
2003. In addition to the 260,000 Escapes and Mazda Tributes built in
Kansas City, the Avon Lake plant will make some 45,000 Escapes or other
derivatives. Although a Mercury version wasn't discussed, TCC sources
indicate a Mercury version of the Escape cute-ute will enter production
before 2005, and will be built in Avon Lake.
