Gm, Ford Shut Plants For A Week
GM, FORD SHUT PLANTS FOR A WEEK
Both GM and Ford will shut plants next week to address sluggish sales. GM
says three of its plants - Detroit-Hamtramck, Orion Township (Mich.), and
Oshawa 2 - would close for a week, affecting 8900 workers. Meanwhile, Ford
will close down the line that builds the Mercury Villager/Nissan Quest
minivans in Avon Lake, Ohio. Some 760 workers will be idled; Ford will
shut down production of the vehicles permanently this year.
