Jaguar today unveils the X-TYPE Wagon. Designed by the Jaguar in-house Design Team headed by Ian Callum, Design Director in collaboration with famous Italian Design House Pininfarina, the new car is the first ever Jaguar Wagon.
The Designers’ brief was to create a car that stands apart from the competitors, differentiated by its quality and intrinsic Jaguar personality.
Ian Callum, Jaguar Design Director, said; “The X-TYPE Wagon has been designed to meet the needs of a new generation of wagon car buyers. Style is now a key motivation when choosing a wagon, with more than a third of European purchasers citing it as their number one consideration”.
Under the direction of Jaguar, Pininfarina provided valuable technical support during the development of the X-TYPE Wagon in the fields of body engineering, vehicle engineering and packaging. Pininfarina was an ideal partner for Jaguar as both companies have a passion for design and a wealth of knowledge gained over many years.
The X-TYPE Wagon is a credible and contemporary alternative to the established competition. Strikingly stylish, with a luxurious and comfortable interior and superior packaging, the X-TYPE Wagon is distinguished by its sleek design and sporty, saloon-like driving characteristics. In short, it is a true Jaguar, engineered for maximum versatility without minimising style or driving pleasure.
Currently the third largest market worldwide for the brand, the Italian market is a very important one for Jaguar. Italy is also one of the biggest Estate and diesel Wagon markets globally for this type of vehicle and Jaguar expects that the Italians will account for around a quarter of X-TYPE Wagon sales.
Jaguar research has revealed that those buying a wagon today are on average significantly younger (32 – 35 years) than their saloon counterparts. They are also more likely to participate in active sports than they are to merely spectate. They seek the versatility and flexibility of a Wagon, but do not want to compromise on driving dynamics. Design is also a very important part of the purchase decision – there is strong evidence to suggest that far from choosing an Estate car on the basis of practicality, many people buy them because they prefer the styling to that of a saloon.
In short, they demand a car that complements their lifestyle – and the new X-TYPE Wagon unveiled here today fulfils that role.
Petrol and diesel engines, manual or automatic transmissions and the Jaguar Traction 4 system all-wheel drive are all available within the new X-TYPE wagon range, with three specification levels and a portfolio of comfort, convenience and performance options giving customers further opportunities to personalise their car.
A host of intelligent interior features gives X-TYPE Wagon owners the flexibility to use their vehicle as best suits them. For example, the rear glass screen can be opened independently of the lower tailgate for easy loading of light items. It is released via a button incorporated in the finger pull around the base of the rear wiper, or by programming the key-fob to open only the rear window rather than the entire tailgate. The rear seat can be configured to provide seating for one, two or three passengers. With the rear seats folded, the X-TYPE Wagon offers the largest load area in its class (1415 litres). A generously sized, easily accessed storage area is located under the carpeted floor,and features a power output socket allowing, for instance, a laptop computer to be recharged hidden from view.
