U.S.A.:Mazda says it has no plan to merge sale channels
Reuters / March 01, 2004
TOKYO (Reuters) -- Mazda Motor Corp. said Monday that it had no plan to consolidate its three domestic sales channels into one, denying a newspaper report.
The Nihon Keizai daily said Monday that the company, owned one-third by Ford Motor Co., would consolidate its sales channels over the next four to five years to boost efficiency.
"The report is based on speculation. We have no such plans," a Mazda spokesman said.
Mazda, pushing a restructuring of its domestic dealer network, said last month that it would expand the product lineup at each of its three domestic dealer channels starting March 1 in a bid to boost sales.
Mazda's domestic sales totaled 277,689 units in 2003, up 5.6 percent from the year before.
It has 890 Mazda and Mazda Anfini showrooms, which under the February move will have a complete lineup of Mazda products, and 348 Mazda Autozam dealers, mostly in rural areas.
