Jaguar is cooking up a hotter X-Type as evidenced by this test mule fitted with sport exhaust, bigger wheels, lowered stance and new front air dam. But don’t look for Jag’s performance-oriented R tag on this car—the license plates suggest this is the work of Jag’s Brit-based Special Vehicle Operations.
The company is tight-lipped about this revved-up cat, but industry sources tell us it’s a juiced 3.0-liter V6 model meant primarily for Europe. A more powerful derivative may be coming for the U.S. market.
A supercharged R version will be developed separately on the next-generation X-Type, which isn’t due until at least the 2006 model year.
