Soccer moms are going to ride in style.
The Mercury Monterey minivan, replacement for the former Mercury Villager, will be loaded to the gills with goodies when it comes out next fall as an '04.
Among the features will be heated and cooled seats, front and rear object detection systems, power adjustable brake/gas pedals, fold-flat-into-the-floor third-row seats, power slide open/close doors on both sides of the vehicle, self-sealing tires and side air-bag curtains for all three rows.
While Villager shared platforms with the Nissan Quest, Monterey will be built off the same platform as the Ford Windstar minivan, which is redesigned for '04.
Monterey and Windstar will be produced in the same plant in Canada. Windstar will offer many of the same features, such as the fold-flat third seat, power side doors/rear liftgate, and side air curtains.
Both will be powered by a new 4.2-liter V6 engine, which replaces the 3.8-liter, 200-h.p. V6 in the current Windstar. No h.p. rating on the 4.2 yet.
