Mercury Will Have Plan
Automotive News reports that Bill Ford is demanding a product plan and
marketing direction for the Mercury brand be in place by March. The
industry weekly quotes Ford's Jan Klug, VP of global marketing, as saying
that his team of product planners and new design chief Darrell Behmer will
have a plan in place by mid-month. Since the announcement that Mercury
would lose the Villager and Cougar, speculation on Mercury's future arose
anew, but Ford executives insist the brand is here to stay. Last year,
Mercury sold more than 311,000 vehicles, down from 359,143 in 2000.
