Thursday, June 12 will mark the Sensation design launch of Montreal’s Fashion and Design Festival with a parade of gleaming Jaguars proudly transporting models wearing local designer’s signature collections. A procession of 12 Jaguars overflowing with models will take over Ste-Catherine Street, from Crescent Street to the Complexe Les Ailes (corner of University).
After a fashion show in the Complexe Les Ailes, the parade will continue through the streets to an eventual end on Saint Laurent Boulevard at the gates of the Sensation Design Event, being held June 12-14, 2003. As one of Montreal's trendiest streets, it will be closed to traffic, so that crowds may take in fashion shows, Jaguar car displays and much more.

The event will showcase the work of many of the country's top fashion, accessory and cosmetic designers, in the context of the world's most beautiful cars, while capitalizing on the worldwide coverage a Formula One event naturally draws.

"Jaguar cars exude style," said Jacques Parent, vice president of marketing for Jaguar Canada. "The Sensation Design Event allows us to showcase our stylish cars among some of the greatest in fashion design. And because of Formula One's style, substance and world stage, this event is a natural fit for us."

Under the Jaguar tent, Jaguar will feature its most technically advanced Jaguar ever, the all-new 2004 Jaguar XJ.

In showrooms this month, the new XJ's lightweight aluminum monocoque construction provides the blueprint for future intelligent manufacturing of full-size luxury cars allowing the new XJ to be stronger, faster, smarter and safer than the model it replaces. The new XJ will be the seventh generation of the iconic XJ sedan, the car that has defined the Jaguar brand since its original launch in 1968.

The MSRP of the new model 4.2-liter XJ8 will be $87,500. That makes it $9,000 less expensive than BMW’s 745i, and undercuts the Mercedes-Benz S430 by $9,100.

And the XJ8 set the tone for other new XJ models, with highly competitive pricing for the lavishly equipped Vanden Plas at $96,000, and the 390bhp supercharged XJR at $105,000.

The entry point XJ8 comes equipped with air suspension, Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS), traction control with Dynamic Stability Control, electronic park brake, power-adjustable foot pedals, Rear Park Control, 12-way power driver and front passenger seats, burl walnut veneer, and leather seating surfaces.

In addition, Jaguar’s groundbreaking Adaptive Restraint Technology System (A.R.T.S.) is standard on all XJ models. The system features the world’s most comprehensive and sophisticated sensing technologies, to monitor the position of the front passenger before deploying the front passenger-side airbag.

Even more lavishly equipped is the new Vanden Plas. It features a level of craftsmanship that has been a Jaguar trademark for more than half a century. Features like a hand-stitched leatherette dash top, hand-laid burl walnut veneers, soft-grained ruched leather seating surfaces, wood and leather steering wheel, and deep-pile lambswool rugs.

Both the XJ8 and Vanden Plas are powered by a new 4.2-liter AJ-V8, developing an impressive 294bhp (SAE). Coupled to a six-speed ZF automatic, this all-aluminum V8 provides 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in just 6.6 seconds and class-leading 10.5 L/100km average fuel economy.

For those demanding true high performance in a luxury sedan, the all-new XJR sets a standard matched only by its exceptional value. Priced at some $51,200 less than the rival Mercedes-Benz S55, the XJR with its supercharged 390bhp (SAE) AJ-V8 delivers 0 to 100 km/h sprinting in a super-car-like 5.3 seconds.

The XJR comes equipped with standard R performance tuned suspension, Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers, 19-inch cast alloy wheels, and Xenon headlights. The performance-themed interior features body-hugging front sport seats with perforated leather center pads, and walnut burl veneer. Also standard is radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control, a feature that is a $3,660 option on the considerably more expensive Mercedes-Benz S55.

The Sensation Design Event will turn Boulevard Ste. Laurent, between Sherbrooke and Prince Arthur Streets, into a pedestrian-only walking area, transforming it into an open-air study in style. The Event includes an exterior fashion show, beauty clinics, the launch of new clothing collections, live window displays and on-the-spot photo shoots and design contests.
