New All Time Sales Record For Jaguar

On the eve of the British International Motor Show, Jaguar today announces a new all- time global sales record. With three months of the year remaining, the Coventry-based premium car manufacturer surpassed last year's record-breaking 100,000 sales figure. This year will be the fifth successive record-breaking sales year for Jaguar.

In the January through September period the company sold 102,189 cars in its 65 markets around the world. This beats the record of 100,791 cars sold in the whole of 2001.

Seventy eight percent (78,008 vehicles) of all Jaguar cars produced so far this year have been exported – maintaining Jaguar's long-standing record as one of Britain's major exporters. A total of 48,006 cars were sold in the United States – a 61% increase over last year. Together, Jaguar and sister company Land Rover account for over 10 percent of all British exports to the United States and this year will export vehicles worth $4.8 billion to the USA.

In the United Kingdom Jaguar has sold 24,181 cars during the first nine months of the year, an increase of 50 percent over the same period last year. Ten years ago Jaguar's full year sales in the UK totalled just 5,600 cars.

In Jaguar's major European markets, sales increased from 13,700 cars to 16,351 cars – an increase of 19 percent. Italy, now established as Jaguar's third biggest global market, saw sales grow by 60 percent with 4,612 cars sold during the January-September period.

Some of Jaguar's biggest gains were in the Asia Pacific region. Sales in Japan increased by 77 percent to 3,823 cars, sales in Australia increased by 125 percent and sales in the growing Taiwanese market increased by 191 percent to 291 cars sold during the first three quarters of the year.

Speaking on the eve of the Motor Show in Birmingham and the UK debut of the new XJ range, Jaguar's Managing Director Mike Beasley said: "Our sales results for the first nine months of this year clearly continue the dramatic product-led growth we have experienced over the past few years. By the time our new XJ range goes on sale next Spring we will have introduced new models across our full range of vehicles within a one year period - the new 2 litre X-Type, the new S-Type with the range-topping S-Type R, the new 4.2 litre XK coupe and convertible and now the new XJ range."
