New Fiesta Is Top For Safety
The new Ford Fiesta has been rated as one of the safest cars in its class by the German ADAC motoring organisation. The results of its crash tests showed that the Ford Fiesta was among the top performing cars in its segment, scoring an impressive four-star result.
ADAC carries out testing under the same protocols and criteria as the Euro-NCAP organisation. Front, side and pole crash tests are carried out on vehicles and the results are then assessed under guidelines agreed with, and supervised by, Euro-NCAP. Under this punishing regime the new Ford Fiesta scored a total of 28 points (or 30 points including the side curtain airbag) out of a possible 34 points that are available from the three crash tests. This puts it comfortably into the four-star category.
Every Fiesta includes dual-stage 'smart' front airbags that adjust the inflation pressure and deployment of the airbag according to the impact; three-point seat belts and head restraints for all five seats; load limiters and height adjusters for the front seat belts; seat belt pre-tensioners (to remove slack from the seat belt webbing during an impact); decoupling pedals; telescopic steering column; and anti-submarining seats (designed to prevent occupants sliding under the seat belts). Front side airbags and side curtain airbags are also available to add to this safety package.
