New Fiesta Wins Top German Award
The new Ford Fiesta has won the prestigious “Golden Steering Wheel”, awarded by Germany’s best-selling Sunday newspaper “Bild am Sonntag”. An expert jury tested 20 new car models before awarding this much sought after prize to the Fiesta.
In a preliminary round, the Fiesta qualified as the best vehicle in its class and it then triumphed in a final round against its four remaining rivals. The 28 independent members of the jury included engineers, representatives from motor sport and a selection of prominent “ordinary car drivers”. In eleven out of twelve categories, the Fiesta was classified in the top three and it scored top marks overall for its steering, transmission, and design, underlining once again Ford's justified reputation for outstanding driving dynamics and contemporary styling.
This is the seventh time Ford has been honoured with the “Golden Steering Wheel” award. The Ford Focus, the Ford Mondeo, the Ford Ka, the Ford Escort and the Ford Scorpio are all previous winners and – in 1976 – it was the original Ford Fiesta that was the first ever winner of the trophy.
Earl Hesterberg, Ford of Europe's Marketing Vice President, commented: “The ‘Golden Steering Wheel’ award is significant because it recognises Ford's success in meeting the needs and expectations of today's customers. It is especially gratifying given the strong competition, which included new models from our key competitors. With the Ford Fusion adding extra customer choice to the options provided by the three and five-door Fiesta we are looking to continued success in the European small car segment.”
