PAG plans to make a big Frankfurt auto show splash in September
(09:33 March 10, 2003)
AutoWeek
The Frankfurt auto show will be the most important in the short history of Ford Motor Co.'s Premier Automotive Group.
"There will be a big statement from PAG in Frankfurt," said Mark Fields, PAG's chairman.
Only Volvo showed anything significant here: the Versatility Concept Car.
But in September, Frankfurt will see important cars from all of Premier's brands.
Jaguar likely will enter the fray with a diesel engine from Ford and will launch its X-type station wagon. Volvo will show the first of its next-generation lower medium cars - probably the S40 sedan, which will be based on the Ford Focus platform. And Land Rover likely will exhibit a face-lifted Freelander. Aston Martin also will make news, possibly with the production version of its AMV8 Vantage.
PAG is under pressure from Ford to contribute a third of the parent's global profits. Fields said PAG's brands would introduce "35 new or significantly revised products" between 2002 and 2007.
