SEOUL, June 10 Asia Pulse - Hankook Tire Co. (KSE:00240) today said it made a five-year contract worth US$100 million with Ford Motor Company to provide the carmaker with 550,000 tires per year for F-150 pickup trucks for the next five years
With the agreement, the tire producer said it will export a total of 1.35 million tires worth US$40 million a year to the U.S. auto manufacturer.
First rolled out in 1948, the F-150 pickup has been one of Ford's key models with overall sales of 27.5 million units since then, including over 1 million units last year.
Hankook Tire president Cho Choong-hwan stressed only five tire makers supply their products to Ford, which is fastidious about quality, with the Korean company being the only one in Asia.
"This contract proved our advanced technology and will sure enhance our brand recognition all over the world," he added.
Hankook Tire supplies Renault with over 150,000 tires a year. It also provides other famous automakers like Volvo, Volkswagen and Mitsubishi with some US$50 million worth of tires per year.
