Statement: Ford Motor Company Responds To Cafe Notice
Washington DC, December 12, 2002 – Ford Motor Company recognizes the need to improve light truck fuel economy and has anticipated a proposal for a CAFE increase since NHTSA announced its rulemaking process earlier this year.
We have worked cooperatively with NHTSA and will continue to do so throughout the comment period.
Improving fleet fuel economy is always a difficult task since our fleet average is determined by what our customers purchase. We are committed to providing our customers a broad range of product choices.
Next year, we will introduce the much-anticipated Escape Hybrid that will offer our SUV customers yet another fuel-efficient choice. And we plan to continue to improve the fuel efficiency of all our vehicles--cars and truck--and to meet the new proposed standards.
