U.K.:Ford Adds To MAX Factor
Auto Express
Richard Yarrow
Car giant Ford is taking it to the MAX with a whole new family of models. Our insiders have spilled the beans on the firm's entire MPV product plan, which is set to include an all-new Galaxy, a Mondeo-based soft-roader and even a more practical version of the quirky Ka. That will take its inspiration from the Turing Ka concept.
Each car will be named in the same style as the recently launched C-MAX, with the flagship of the family the E-MAX. It will be the next-generation Galaxy, due in 2005, and will remain the same size and a full seven-seater. However, cabin designers have learned from the C-MAX and it will feature a more versatile interior. It's also likely to get the Iris system first shown in the C-MAX concept, which lets front seat occupants see children in the rear via a video camera and dash-mounted screen. The second and third row seats will all move independently in any direction to maximise the amount of cargo space and passenger room.
The D-MAX will be a Mondeo-sized soft-roader, designed for the urban environment, but offering some mud-plugging ability. The A-MAX, meanwhile, will be an estate version of the Ka city car, and based on the Turing Ka designed by Italian styling house Ghia which was first seen at the Turin Motor Show in 1998.
Ford is refusing to comment on the three newcomers. However, the new names were all trademarked at the Patent Office last month.
