U.K.:Ford plans to close U.K. design studio
Autos Insider
LONDON -- Ford Motor Co. will close its Ingeni design studio in the United Kingdom on Jan. 1, Ward's Automotive Reports reported, citing J Mays, Ford's group vice president for design.
The studio opened in 2002 in London's Soho and was intended to operate outside the automaker's traditional vehicle-design process. Ingeni didn't fit Chief Executive William Clay Ford Jr.'s "back-to-basics company philosophy," Mays told Ward's. Bill Ford has divested non-core assets to shore up the automaker's financial resources and sharpen management's focus.
Ford's Europe-based luxury vehicle divisions provide most of the studio's funding, and the 14 Ingeni designers will be reassigned among those units as well as the company's North American and European operations.
