Derv with urge for flagship XJ
The first diesel-powered XJ saloon is due to make its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The TDVi is powered by a 204bhp version of the Ford/PSA 2.7-litre V6, and prices will start at £43,995. Read our first drive of the diesel XJ next week.
Another new model to take a bow at Frankfurt will be the all-new Daimler, reviving the historic luxury brand name. Following Jaguar tradition the new Daimler will be a rebadged long-wheelbase XJ, powered by a supercharged V8. Jaguar will also show the 153bhp 2.2-litre six-speed X-type turbodiesel, though this model is expected to be made public ahead of the Frankfurt show.
Meanwhile, according to German reports Jaguar’s all-new XK sports car will have a flip-up bonnet to help protect pedestrians in a collision. Developed by supplier Autoliv, two airbags mounted under the rear edge of the bonnet are triggered by sensors in the bumper. These lift the bonnet by 17cm, creating enough space between the bonnet and engine to help prevent life-threatening injuries.
