Ford readies seven-seat SAV
Autocar
Despite sporty intentions, reear three-quarter view is pure people-carrier
Ford’s dramatic SAV concept is nearly ready for the showrooms, as these scoop shots obtained by autocar.co.uk show. And the production version that arrives in the first half of 2006 clearly differs little from the Geneva motor show car.
Although the mainstream version won’t get the SAV’s aluminium bumper intakes, it does get the prominent
foglights-come-daylight running lights (soon to become a legal requirement).
Also preserved for production is the vent sited behind the SAV’s front wheelarches. It’s an odd signature for the Blue Oval considering the wing vent has already been adopted by Ford’s Land Rover and Jaguar divisions.
Despite the size of the SAV — and its ability to carry seven people — it isn’t a direct replacement for the ageing Galaxy. That honour will fall to another vehicle which should be unveiled in concept form at the Geneva show next March.
In keeping with the SAV’s sporting overtones, we expect a range-topping turbocharged five-cylinder version in the mould of the popular Vauxhall Zafira GSi.
