Amicus says Coventry is one of Ford's most productive plants

Jaguar workers will lobby the Labour Party conference on Monday as part of a campaign to fight the planned loss of car production in Coventry.

Ford announced last week proposals to switch production from the Browns Lane plant to Castle Bromwich, Birmingham.

The plans will lead to 1,150 job losses across the company and unions have warned of industrial action.

Workers from Browns Lane will urge government ministers on Monday to join their protest against Ford.

Derek Simpson, general secretary of Amicus, said: "We will take our fight wherever and do whatever it takes to get Ford to reverse their decision.

"Browns Lane is among the most productive and highest quality car plants in the Ford group and our members there do not deserve to lose their jobs."

Staff at the factory have already voted to back a strike ballot and union leaders are now considering their next move.

Amicus and the Transport and General Workers' Union will move an emergency motion this week urging the government to introduce stronger protection for UK workers.
