Union: Jaguar workers reject pay offer

Reuters

LONDON -- Workers at Jaguar rejected a pay offer today, the Transport & General Workers Union (T&G) said.

A ballot of workers at Jaguar's Castle Bromwich, Coventry and Whitley sites voted 1,878 in favor and 2,101 against the offer, the T&G said in a statement.

A T&G spokesman said union negotiators would meet Jaguar on Monday, Nov. 13.

A Jaguar spokesman was not immediately available to comment.

Ford Motor Co. bought Jaguar in 1989 for $3.07 billion (1.6 billion pounds) but has struggled to make money with the brand, part of its Premier Automotive Group.

Ford cut 1,150 Jaguar jobs in 2004 in England, scaled back production at the Browns Lane plant in Coventry and shifted output to another factory near Birmingham.
