Volvo expects to build 10,000 S40s per year in China
Volvo is the latest car firm to commit to producing models in China. The Swedish firm confirmed this morning that it will start making the S40 in Chongqing.
The plant, which is owned by Changan Ford, the American giant's Chinese joint venture, will build 10,000 Volvos a year. 'We have been worked with Changan Ford for over a year and we have ensured that their factory will be meet our high demands,' said Volvo Chief Executive Fredrik Arp.
Volvo sold just 3000 cars in China last year but the market there is expected to continue growing at between 10 and 15 per cent in 2006.
