The 2007 Ford Edge's shape takes cues from classic sports-car design with its raked windshield and contoured corners. The company's biggest dealer says Ford has a hit with the crossover vehicle. (Ford Motor Co.)
Ford needs its new Edge crossover to be a hit, and its biggest dealer thinks it will be.
Mike Jackson, CEO of AutoNation Inc., puts the wagon-like Edge in the same echelon as the Mustang and F-150 -- even a little better. His verdict: "Best Ford ever."
Yes, he's a car salesman, but Jackson is not exactly one to do free public relations for Detroit.
He has criticized Ford and its domestic rivals for building too much inventory and for not having enough new models that are attractive, fun to drive and in tune with America's new gas-conscious auto-buying habits.
With the Edge, though, Ford nailed it, he said.
"I think it's going to be a hit. It's the best vehicle Ford has ever produced. They got the whole package right."
