Explorer Sport Trac to get V-8

DETROIT -- The next-generation Ford Explorer Sport Trac will get a V-8 engine, Ford Motor Co. COO Jim Padilla said.
The redesigned Sport Trac, Ford's SUV-pickup combo, will go on sale in 2006 after moving to an updated Ford Explorer platform.
Ford exhibited a Sport Trac concept with a 4.6-liter V-8 at the Detroit auto show.
The concept also hints at a wider, longer production Sport Trac with brawnier styling.
"You can see in that a far stronger, more powerful unit," Padilla said.
"It will be a more versatile unit. It will be a more sporty unit. You can see some really high-performance things going with that."
