Ford Facing Wider Tire Recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is considering ordering an expanded recall by Ford of Crown Victoria wheels after continued consumer complaint, the Dow Jones Newswires reported.
The agency said it has received nine more complaints that fixed wheels or ones not involved in the original recall have cracked, causing flat tires. One of the complaints came after a police car crashed during a high-speed pursuit when a wheel that had been replaced under the recall failed. Minor injuries were reported in the accident.
Ford originally recalled nearly 30,000 Crown Victoria wheels and spare tires that were manufactured from August 2001 to September 2002 in August 2003. The company also extended its warranty for 2003 Crown Victoria police-interceptor and taxi wheels that were built from October 2002 through April 2003.
