DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. will end its "Drive on Us" gasoline subsidy on Monday, July 31, as scheduled.
The promotion, which offers buyers a debit card worth $1,000 or $1,100 intended to help defray gasoline expenses, has been the centerpiece of Ford's 2006 model clearance sale. It had been speculated that it could be extended to help complete the selldown.
"Ford is continuing its 2006 model-year selldown, with enhanced incentive programs," spokesman Jim Cain said Friday. "But the 'Drive on Us' promotion with the free gas will end on the 31st."
The new program will continue to emphasize clearing out the 2006 models, Cain said. There will be new advertisements, including some with "American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks, who was featured prominently in the "Drive on Us" promotion.
Cain wouldn't provide additional details about the new program, saying some details have not been completed.
Ford did announce enhanced incentives on some 2006 and 2007 models to dealers on Friday.
They include:
An additional $500 rebate for the 2007 Ford Ranger, bringing the total rebate to $1,500.
An additional $500 for the 2007 Ford Escape, bringing the total rebate to $1,500.
An additional $1,000 on the 2006 Ford Focus, bringing the total rebate to $2,000.
An additional $1,500 on the 2007 Ford Focus, bringing the total rebate to $2,500.
