Ford Motor Co. said today it plans to build 750,000 vehicles in North America in the first quarter of 2007, a 14.4 percent drop from the first quarter of this year.
Ford also said it was cutting an additional 15,000 units, or 2.4 percent, out of its production plans for the fourth quarter of this year because it has temporarily stopped building the Freestar minivan in Oakville, Ontario. The automaker now expects to build 620,000 units during the fourth quarter.
In the first quarter of 2007, Ford plans to build 240,000 cars, 76,000 units less than it build in the first quarter this year. Truck output is expected to total 510,000 units in the first three months of 2007, down 50,000 units from a year earlier.
