DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co.'s new 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine will go into production on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models.
Barb Samardzich, Ford's powertrain vice president, wouldn't provide timing. But she did say Sunday at the Detroit auto show that all three brands will get the new engine, which Ford is calling TwinForce.
Ford plans to reveal more about TwinForce production plans in November, Samardzich said.
The TwinForce was unveiled in the Lincoln MKR concept car on Sunday. It is based on Ford's 3.5-liter Duratec V-6, which went into production in 2006. The TwinForce marks Ford's first application of gasoline direct injection on a V-6 engine.
Ford says the TwinForce delivers V-8 power and performance with V-6 fuel economy. With its two turbochargers, the show-car engine produces 415 hp and 400 lbs.-ft. of torque. Samardzich wouldn't say whether the production engine would approach those numbers.
