Re: US:Ford will remake all Ford, Lincoln, Mercury vehicles by 2010
I'm surprised that FoMoCo hasn't taken on it's own version of the Mazda CX7/CX9. It'd be a brainless thing just to modify it a bit. The only downside is that Ford would make the suspension softer than Mazdas tuning and would therefor decrease the 'sport utility' nature of that vehicle as the lines are sleek. The mazda CX-9 road test that I read, the editors only managed 17mpg with it in average driving. If Ford wants to be in the game it'd make an all aluminum platform like the Jaguar XJ8 sedan.
As vehicles are only capable of going so fast it only makes sense to lighten them up; not only for performance, but for fuel economy. Ford should debut an aluminum Focus without jacking up the price substantially and I'd get one for sure. Why? Because I live in an area with snow eight months of the year and would like an engine to outlast the frame for a change. I'm not sure why I think this, but I believe it will be GM that comes out with the first lightweight platform...as the Ontario Government gave the union another $150 million of my tax money...arg
