MIAMI, Fla. -- It is the longest-running, best-selling Mercury ever, and this month the Grand Marquis celebrates 30 years with the launch of a special anniversary edition.

The 2005 Grand Marquis 30th Anniversary Edition made its debut last Friday at the South Florida International Auto Show in Miami. As the top volume sales region (Orlando) for Grand Marquis, southern Florida was the perfect backdrop to celebrate the nameplate's diamond anniversary.

"The Grand Marquis has meant so much to the Mercury brand for so long," said Kevin Andrews, Grand Marquis marketing manager. "This car symbolizes the meaning of customer loyalty. It isn't uncommon for a Grand Marquis customer to come back two and three times over for a new model. From the standard V-8 engine with the most horsepower and torque in its class, rear-wheel-drive capability, five-star frontal crash safety (driver and front-passenger) and host of premium comfort and convenience features, Grand Marquis has consistently delivered what customers want."

Based off of the LS Premium package, the Grand Marquis 30th Anniversary Edition accessories package lists for $995 MSRP (taxes extra) and includes 30th Anniversary exterior badging, unique woodgrain appliqué, two-tone leather-trimmed front seats with embroidered "30th Anniversary" logo, Mercury logo hood ornament, body-color door handles and bodyside moldings, 16" chromed-aluminum wheels, and unique front scuff plates

As America's favorite six-passenger, body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive V-8 sedan, more than 2.7 million Grand Marquis vechicles have been sold since it was first introduced as a 1975 model.

Although sales of the Grand Marquis are down slightly calendar-year-to-date (70,560 units through October -- down 5 percent), it remains the best-selling nameplate within the Lincoln Mercury lineup.

The Grand Marquis also holds claim as the "Highest Ranked Full-Size Car in Initial Quality" from J.D. Power and Associates 2004 Initial Quality Study, in addition to having received the Polk Owner Loyalty Award (2003 model year) for the highest model loyalty in the large car segment.

Job #1 for the anniversary edition is scheduled for December 13 at the St. Thomas Assembly Plant in St. Thomas, Ontario (Canada), with expected production to be approximately 2,500 units.
