Hamp to leave Ford chief of staff post

Steve Hamp -- the man who reinvigorated the Henry Ford, the area's biggest and most respected tourist attraction -- is leaving his chief of staff position at Ford Motor Co. by the end of the year.
Hamp, who left the Henry Ford museum complex in November after nine years to join the automaking business started by Henry Ford, sent a private note to his team Monday about his move.
As chief of staff, Hamp's primary job was to support his brother-in-law, Chairman Bill Ford, who was also CEO until Sept. 5. But with new CEO Alan Mulally now at the helm of Ford, Hamp said he's wrapping up the work he came to Ford to do.
The departure gives the impression that the Ford family is stepping aside to let Mulally have a free hand with the company.
Aside from Hamp, 58, few Ford family members help manage the operations of the company.
Besides Bill Ford, who is the great-grandson of Henry Ford, other family members working at the company are Elena Ford, who serves as director of product marketing, planning and strategy for North America, and Henry Ford III, a 26-year-old who joined Ford's labor-relations staff earlier this year. Edsel Ford is a board member.
