The Auto Channel

IRVINE, Calif. -- Effective November 1, 2004, George Ayres currently VP Jaguar Marketing, is appointed Ford SVT Marketing & Sales Manager in the Ford Performance Group, succeeding Tom Scarpello.

Ayres joined Jaguar in 1997, after 11 years with Ford Motor Company. He joined Aston Martin Jaguar Land Rover North America in August of 2001 as Strategic Planning Manager before assuming the Jaguar Marketing role in June of 2002. During his time with Aston Martin Jaguar Land Rover, Ayres helped the company successfully launch many products including the 2004 aluminum XJ sedan, and most recently the 2005 XJ8L and Super V8. Ayres' experience in Jaguar performance products includes leading the development of the XKR "Silverstone" in 2001, developing the XKR100/XJR100 anniversary cars in 2002, and helping to create concept cars such as the XK-RS and Concept Eight. He has also nurtured Jaguar's return to Trans-Am racing with the Rocketsports XKR, which has recently earned the company two consecutive manufacturer championships.

"George has made a tremendous contribution in shaping the current Jaguar product range from his work in the UK and through to the way we communicate our cars to the American public," commented C.J. O'Donnell, Executive Vice President Sales, Marketing and Communications. "George is a genuine car enthusiast and Ford Motor Company's SVT brand will benefit greatly from his breadth of experience."
