Saleen Unveils High-Performance S331 Truck in L.A.
Inside Line
Rolling Thunder from Saleen: This supercharged Saleen Sport Truck S331 was nicknamed "Thunder" by its engineers, and we can see why: 450 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque from its 5.4-liter V-8.
LOS ANGELES — High-performance guru Saleen unveiled a preproduction version of the new supercharged Saleen Sport Truck S331 at the Los Angeles auto show on Wednesday.
The supercharged S331 with a 5.4-liter V8 churns out 450 horsepower at 5,200 rpm with 500 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. A second three-valve version of the truck will be available, this one with a normally aspirated 5.4-liter engine that makes 325 hp at 5,000 rpm and 400 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm.
Saleen said the supercharged version of the S331 is expected to start in the high-$40,000s, while the three-valve version is expected to start in the high-$30,000s.
The truck's styling includes seven-spoke, 23-inch forged wheels on high-performance BFG tires. Options include bike and gun racks, a heavy-duty toolbox, and HID headlamps.
What this means to you: Steve Saleen, the maker of the Saleen S281 Mustang and the S7 supercar, sets out to make what he calls "the perfect high-performance truck." The gun rack is a nice touch.
