Tower Automotive Inc. said it will build a plant in the southern U.S. to supply a new body-structures contract with Ford Motor Co.
The new plant is expected to open in 2007. The Ford contract also will boost capacity at other Tower plants.
Novi-based Tower is working through its Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.
The company said it also recently won a contract for a large assembly with an unnamed automaker that will be produced at its Plymouth, Mich., plant.
Tower didn't reveal terms for either contract.
Tower is 21st on the Automotive News ranking of top suppliers to North American manufacturers with $2.1 billion in original equipment sales in 2004.
