4.6 v8 auto trans, everyonce in a while you will hear a whistling noise under the hood and it takes off in second gear, but if your punch it, it will go into first. when i shift it down into first manuely, it doesnt want to move, like locks up.
this problem is causing a lot of this!!

ummm...this could be caused by a couple of things...mine was a bit tough in first when i shifted down manually (when it was an automatic). i drained the transmission fluid, and then put new stuff in, and it worked fine...try that. (it probly needs it anyway, and its not like its expensive, so its worth a shot)

the fluid was changed not long ago so thats not the problem. its just weird how only when u hear the whistling noise 1st gear messes up. for the record, the whistling IS NOT the vacuum hoses! any other ideas?
