yes it has been done. the Bird was on the cover of a magazine thinking mustang monthly it was a 87 T- Bird I do believe.. It was under the Stock Hood. they dropped the Steering bar about 2 inches. that is all I remember. maybe you could do a search under Super Fords or Mustang monthly .. I don't remember.. My Stepson wound up with the car from his Dad and Ruined it totally..

I was always told you can't beat Cubic Inches.. So that should be for you to decide how much you want to invest in Hp and Torque...

Re: 460 engine in a ford turbocoupe

Dropping a 460 in that car may be possible, or is according to the above, but i can tell you one thing is for sure, you will have to find heavier duty suspension for the front, a 460 has atleast a couple hundred lbs on a 302, and that would tend to make the car handle poorly if the suspension was not adressed, and along with that, if the 460 is EFI there is electronics, and a really tall throttle body wich may not fit under the hood, a carbed 460 might still have problems without serious mods

Re: 460 engine in a ford turbocoupe

A friend of mind did this about 10 years ago and it was awesome. Tight fit but awesome.

On piece of advice besides the front suspension is the rear end and drive train. My friend told me he had to seriously beef that up. If he would have used the stock rear he would have tore it apart. Plus the weight difference might make the rear not want to grab. You might want to think about a good torsion bar as well to keep it form getting away from you.

He told me of a story about someone he knew that put a blown Chevy 350 in a fiero and tore the ass right out of it so be sure to keep this in mind.

Good luck.

Now I didn't say drop_in and drive.. anything can be made to Fit.. with lots of mods sometime. I just saw a Mazda RX with a 302 and all of it stuffed under the stock Hood..
