91 T-bird stalling from stop when cold
91 T-bird, ~110k, 3.8L V6
A few months ago, I had a problem where the car would stall when accellerating from a stop in the first few minutes of driving, but I was told to work around it by not using overdrive while it was cold. Now, the problem is back when I'm in any gear, and this morning, I stalled when in reverse.
When the car first starts, the idle sounds a little gurgly, but nothing obnoxious. I've been warming the car up for several minutes, but that doesn't seem to help. The strange thing is, once the car stalls once, and I'm able to get it started again (usually in a minute or two), it sounds absolutely great, the idle sounds strong, and there are no problems.
I've replaced the distributor cap, fuel filter, had a professional fuel system cleaning, and transmission service all in the past month or so, and each of these things solves the problem for a day or two, then it comes back. What's the root cause I'm missing?
Thanks for your help.
