96 Bird Door Lock - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Not a keyless entry system. Got this car a short while back and never locked it till now. Door key wouldn't work! Had to break in using some 'old school' technology and activated the powerlock button. What is going on? I haven't pulled the panel yet. Would hope to find some info first. Is this thing a power activated key deal? Is there a fuse or something? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you try the other side? The key doesn't have any chip in it. How did you lock it?

Used the power door lock switch on the door, got out closed the door. Came to find the key not seeming to engage anything on either side.

They probably replaced the ignition lock cylinder and now that part takes a different key.

Thanks Bert. It appears to be an original key. It fits and turns in both directions, just doesn't feel like there's anything in there. I'm gonna have to pull a trim panel and check this out aren't I. :/ Oh, and I found that it's a 95 not 96 if that makes any difference.

Someone probably used a slim jim on it and disconnected the linkage. Hopefully an easy fix. As you said, time to remove the door panel.
