I am looking to buy a 1996 Thunderbird LX for my sons first car, the car is in great shape. The owner told me the only problem is it has a rough idle around 30 mph. The check engine light is not on and he has replaced the fuel filter, plugs, cleaned the injectors and cleaned mass air flow sensor. Does anybody know what this could be. Don't want to buy then spend a lot fixing it.
Thanks
Could be something simple like a plug wire / lead breaking down under load . Or the fact that he has tried to cure it unsuccessfully , may mean it's more serious . May be a cyl . with low compression , hard to tell really . Surprised the roughness is only at that speed .Maybe cleaning the MAF didn't work and it needs replaced ?
