96 t-bird 4.6 problems after manifold change - Ford Forums

just got done replacing the intake manifold on my 4.6. car ran ok before except for a small coolant leak under the aluminum coolant manifold. replaced with an aftermarket manifold. I replaced the plugs with the recommended autolite platinums to replace the original motorcraft platinums. also replace the air cleaner and fuel filter.

now the car hesistates (like a bad accelarator pump on a carb'd car) when you first hit the throttle. after warming up it lugs/jerks at around 30 mph or so, and occassionally idles rough. check engine light came on after about 5 miles.

i have checked all the electrical connections, fuel enjectors, plug wires and vacuum connections/hoses, wires/sensor connections. everything appears to be right. i got a p1443 code and checked the EVAP sensor and system. I didn't touch them durin the manifold change, but now have the driveability problems with occassional miss and lugging around 30 mph. else has had this problem or found the fix? searched the forum on the code, but everything checks out.

Did you change the plug wires when you did the plugs??? The plug wires were a soft spot on 4.6L's. If the purge solenoid were stuck open maybe it would affect the fuel trim (it's fuel vapor after all, it will make it a bit richer if not operating properly.

just replaced the plug wires and that fixed the occassional miss. had a locking gas cap, so replaced it with a stock one and replaced the hose that comes off the manifold line to the EVAP sensor. That fixed the p1443 code. thanks for the help, the car runs like a kitten.
