My sons 4.6 Bird is throwing these codes, My chart says Bank 1 sys lean, Bank 2 sys lean. The car seems to run fine, It has 108,000 miles on it. Anyone have this activity before? Thx.

That's usually caused by a vacuum leak or a dirty MAF. Read these for more info. OBD-II Trouble Code: P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1) and OBD-II Trouble Code: P0174 System Too Lean (Bank 2). There's a special MAF cleaner that you can get at a parts store.

Thx RTG, i pulled off the airbox cover and rechecked the K+N filter we cleaned and installed, but that was about 3 mos ago, before the codes started. I also checked the visible vacumn lines. Some seem a little brittle. Will have to investigate further. I did notice the MAF seemed unusually clean inside. Did not seem like an OEM part. Only owning the car for about 1.5 yrs hard to tell. I did notice it was a wide open design not like my 99 chevy MAF with a thin wire and a grate, is this standard for Ford products? havent owned one for so many years. Also the hard plastic line aft of the MAF from the intake tube across the top of the engine seemed a little loose as it enters the drivers side valve cover PCV hose, could that possibly throw the code? Thx.

Ant vacuum leak is enoubh to gause a problem. The K&N air filter oil has been known to dirty up the MAF sensors.
