97 thunderbird window stopped working

hey guys. I have a 97 thunderbird and today the window stopped working. It won't go up or down. It stuttered a few times and tried to fo down but quit. Thankfully it died in the up position!

Now it will only make a rythmic rrr, rrr, rrr sound when I hit the switch up or down. Its the driver side so I kind of need it.

Any ideas what this might be and can it be fixed by a joe shmo with some tools?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 97 thunderbird window stopped working

Thanks for the reply. It was the three plastic nubs that surround the large gear in the motor. They were broken into pieces. I bought a new after market motor and; surprise, surprise, it didn't fit properly. I order the kit to refurbish the nubs and gear for the original. It seems simple enough. It should be here tomorrow.

Thanks again!
