now i've been trying to figure out what im up against. i've been looking at all i can on v6 to v8 swaps. first. i have a 97 thunderbird lx with a 3.8 and independent rear suspension. am i looking at a wireing nightmare? or is the swap pretty simple? i've done engine swaps in honda's and carbed v8's before. but never FI v8s. is the v6 trans ok, or do i need to swap that to? will a mustang trans fit? and my rear end? can it handle the bigger motor? or do ineed to buy stronger axles? like i said im new to the t-bird and any info will help. thanks

Trust me, it will be some work. Make sure to search over at tccoa.com (or they'll get mad at you), but the general theory is that it is not worth putting the effort into swapping, but rather sell your car and get one with the V8. Also, they have a sticky in the 3.8L forum for a 4.2L swap from a truck.

I am looking to do the same thing..... I have a 92 V6 that was my Grandfather's (main reason to keep that car) and I have a donner 93 V8 both in my driveway.

To make it easier I have both cars and therefore all of the wiring harnesses.

tccoa is def a good place to start, also the mustang tranny is too short to fit into the bird without extending the bell housing..... otherwise you'll shift into the air vents......
