Theres been and 86 tbird setting at a building near me for quite some time now. Its in perfect condition, inside and out. And i do mean perfect. Of course it need a paint job. It had a V6 but now it has no motor. Its $550.

Could be a good project car to put a 351W in it. But for $550? What do you think?

Is there a diffferance in horsepower and tourqe with a 351 long block and short block

Short block generally means without heads. Long block with heads.

nice pick. Drop in a 8.8 rear and or a ford 9" and roll!! The stock 7.5 found in v6's and earlier 302's like mine won't handle that kind of power without fortifying the guts.

There are plenty of mustang 8.8's to be had out there in boneyards. It'd set you back about 200 for a good one.

What are some models that have 8.8 or 9" rears? There arnt to many mustangs at the local junkyards.

Also, any recommendations on a manual trans? Will the trans from an 88 turbo coup work? Its really the only manual trans i can find that will fit the mid 80s tbirds.

P.S. im not going to spend the same money on a trans as i do on the motor, so i mean what trans from other cars will fit?

there is a web site I use for junk parts look up. It is car-part.com you should be able to answer all your questions there just by playing with it. 83-86 birds are on a foxbody chassis. Meaning mustang parts (79-93) will fit with minor modifications.

Explorer's have 8.8's usually with disc brakes, 5.0 lx stangs and gt's have them.
