Random things Auto owners should know.

Know what factory defects your car has. Check this site and find out - Recall Information - Ford

The lug pattern on MN12 vehicles is 5x5.25,
In order to use Mustang wheels (5x5.50) you have to swap the front hubs from a SN95 chassis Mustang, and the IRS hubs from a 99-01 Cobra.

Chassis Platforms are as listed -

MN12 - Thunderbird, Cougar
Panther - Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis
Fox - 1979 thru 1993 Mustang
SN95 - 1994 thru 2004 Mustang
S197 - 2005 thru present Mustang

Engines available in Thunderbirds

1st Gen
(1955 to 1957) - 312 Cu in (5.1L) Y block V8

2nd Gen -
(1958 to 1960) - 352 Cu in (5.8L) FE V8
- 430 Cu In (7.0L) MEL V8

3rd Gen -
(1961 to 1963) - 390 Cu In (6.4L) FE V8

4th Gen -
(1964 to 1966) - 390 Cu In (6.4L) FE V8

5th Gen -
(1967 to 1971) - need more research

6th Gen -
(1972 to 1976) - 460 Cu In (7.5L)
- 429 Cu In (7.0L)

7th Gen -
(1977 to 1979) - 302 Cu In (4.9L)
- 351 Cu In (5.8L)
- 400 Cu In (6.6L) *optional*

8th Gen -
(1980 to 1982) - 255 Cu In (4.2L) V8
- 302 Cu In (4.9L) V8
- 200 Cu In (3.3L) Inline 6

9th Gen -
(1983 to 1988) - (3.8L) Essex V6
- 302 Cu In (4.9L)
- (2.3L) I4 Turbo

10th Gen -
(1989 to 1997) - 3.8L Essex V6 * Non Supercharged*
- 3.8L Essex V6 * Supercharged/ Intercooled*
- 281 Cu In (4.6L) OHC V8
- 302 Cu In (4.9L) EFI V8

11th Gen -
(2002 to 2005) - 3.9L V8

1989 was the first year that SLA IRS (Short- Long Arm 4 wheel independent rear suspension) was introduced.
