i blew the original intake manifold and ford replaced it with the new one about 6 years ago. this manifold has a aluminum "manifold" that houses the thermostat. I have a leak where this aluminum manifold bolts to the block. can you remove this manifold without having to removing the main (plastic) manifold so that i can replace the apparent leaking o-ring?whic

I havent worked on a 96 t-bird could you send a piuc of what your talking about? If you have a upper and lower intake manifold you probably will have to take the upper off. You might get away with it but in the long run taking a few extra bolts and plugs off will make it alot easier to get to your problem. Makre sure the gasket between the manifold and intake is good you will probabley have to replace it if it wasnt when you get the new one. Make sure the bolts are tight. They should be torqued youll just have to go look in a haynes or chiltons book. Mopst auto part storts will open an un-open book to get the info. I know Auto Zone does.

appreciate the reply. got into it today, the ford replacement manifold has the aluminum manifold bolted from the underside to the plastic manifold. also it used stock gaskets. found that the leak was from the lower gasket where the aluminum had deteriorated. ordered an aftermarket manifold that has o-rings that is supposed to be the fix.
