Can anyone tell me if the T-bird 4.6 is the same as Mustang 4.6's?
I have an opportunity to pick up a 97 LX T-bird for cheap from a family member. It has 110 K and is in great shape. It runs real strong and I can get it for $900 bucks! I've had and 89 LX vert 5.0 and an 01 GT. I'm familar with modding both.

Base on the motor is the same. I believe that the mustang will have a bit more of an aggressive ecu and the exhaust flows better on the mustang too.
First thing I'd do is uncap the exhaust. There is so much restriction on my 92 and its the main reason why the HP numbers are so different between the two. The next would be air intake, bigger mass air and maybe throttle body.
My T-Bird has 3:08 rear gears and thats a big killer off the line. I hope soon to swap them for 3:73's or 3:90's

They are the same block and heads, however the intake manifold on the mustang is much better and it is tuned much more aggressively.

Swap on a mustang top end and you basically have a mustang engine.

I'm sure they are,the only time i have seen a differance in the same size engine is front wheel drive to rear drive.The 3.8 taurus engine is not the same as a 3.8 mustang.The only differance might be the year made and might have differant computers for smog and crap like that,but i bet the trans are pretty much the same and horse power.Check out the throttle body location and see if they are the same,there might be a differance but i dont think so,and ifthere is you just swap intakes.
