Question Transmissions Conversion 4.6L 1994 Auto to 1996-2001 Manual?

Finally some thunderbird people!

I got a 95 thunderbird with a 94 4.6L engine in it from a thunderbird...
The only problem is the transmission is auto and I'm making it manual. I've done this before on other cars so I know what I need and I don't need to be lectured on not doing it. I can't find a transmission though.
Do I Use:
T-45 Transmission

And what transmission will fit.
The 4.6L Romeo from 92 to 95 is slightly different from the 96 to 2001. Anyone know of a transmission that would work or if the T-45 or whatever is on the 1996 and up mustangs would fit? Thanks

Where are you lcoated? I know people all over that might be able to hook you up with a good trans.Believe me-you're getting in waaay over your head if you wanting to swap it out for a manual.

Re: Transmissions Conversion 4.6L 1994 Auto to 1996-2001 Manual?

I'm in Hollywood Florida...
I've done tranny swaps on other cars so I pretty much know what I'm getting into...
Someone told me the 50H0 mustang tranny fits with the 4.6 but I don't think so. But in 1997 ford made a thunderbird with the dohc 4.6 and a tremec transmission. If the price is right I might buy it... But I think I'll prefer the T-45...

Ford Motor Company never manufactured a Tbird in '97 with a manual trans.
You may think you know what you're getting into with the trans swap, but you don't.
You can use a T45 or a TR3650 as long as they're the modular bellhousing pattern. Get out the welder, grinder, and alot of different metal to start fabbing parts with-you're gonna need it.And while you're at it-invest in a few sets of halfshafts-you'll break them pretty regularly launching the car with that manual trans.

Re: Transmissions Conversion 4.6L 1994 Auto to 1996-2001 Manual?

Sorry man you're wrong
First off...
there was a 97 thunderbird according wikipedia.org. Here is the link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Th...Super_Birds.22
Click on Super Bird and read the LAST Paragraph.
Second, the same sentence proves that there was a T-45 transmission that fits the 4.6 DOHC. But the DOHC and SOHC have the same mounting bolts and both engines can use the T-45. The 3650 however does not fit.
Stock halfshafts on the tbird are fine and if I need any new ones I'll use some from the mustangs.

What I WILL NEED:
A custom driveshaft ( I'll be getting aluminum)
A Clutch.
A flywheel with flywheel bolts.
Clutch Master cylinder and slave as well as the line.(I'll be getting stainless)
Transmission mounts that fit.
Bypassing Park with the ECU
Drilling holes and placing the clutch pedal

My point is there is no welding and why noone hasn't done this yet is ****in stupid cause its cake. I know exactly what I'm getting into I just need the parts... I pray the shifter fits, but it really should cause there was a 97 tbird...

Those SVE Tbirds were never produced, were not even '97 model chassis cars, and are all scrap metal now.
You're in for a rude awakening...
Have fun.I'm done helping out stpuid, arrogant assholes.
