Hey guys, I have a 1986 cougar that doesn't Start. I installed new fuel pump, filter, starter, relay module even cleaned the tank and lines, new switch even. but the car just won't start up. it turns over but won't make it all the way. what should i do? it was my grandfathers car and sat for some time so i really want to fix it up and drive it. thanks guys.

Do you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds every time the key is turned to start? Setting that long amy have caused the fuel pump to seize.

well as i said above, i installed a new fuel pump and filter and cleaned the lines as well....

If it doesn't fire, you're either missing spark or fuel, check to make sure you've got pressure at you're fuel rail, if you haven't got the gauge for measuring pressure, one will cost you about 40 bucks. Since you've all ready looked into the common items that would restrict you're fuel, verify you're getting spark. If the car has sat that long, you may have corrosion built up on the electrical connections, dry rotted insulation allowing shorts, etc.

And I correct myself on the fuel comments, fuel-AIR. Critters have been know to take residence in air boxes and restricting air to the throttle body.

We seen that you had fitted a new pump , but that doesn't mean that it's working .There could be a power supply fault to pump , hence why Bert asked if you could hear it operate every time the key is turned to start? The more info you can supply makes it easier to try and help you .

Vehicle is clear of rodents/chewed damaged wires. (Visual inspection) I'm getting the right amount of fuel pressure cbeckes that with gauge already.

Are you getting any spark when cranking? When you say that turns over but won't make it all the way, what do you mean? Does it crank normally and not start or crank over slowly?

It acts like it has full potential but just doesn't make it. I will be checking again for spark. And I'll be using my multi-meter to to check that I have the right amps and voltage in my ignition/starting/relay...etc.
